WW1 Era RPPC Empress Augusta Victoria & Victoria Louise

Hello, I like military and older royal postcards. This is one of my favorites. It is a real photo postcard that show Empress Augusta Victoria, the last Prussian empress prior to the abolition of the monarchy after WW1. She is shown with her daughter, Princess Victoris Louise.

(Perth and Fremantle) regularly hit $25 each nowadays.

Hi rod222, They really weren't. I bought a small collection from someone and were priced really low. Real photo postcards can go fairly high depending on the subject. I also like the local cards. I like to see the way things really were and to me postcards as well as postal history are a small snapshot in time.

My wife was going through a pick box of covers and saw a cover with the postmark Doorn the town in the Netherlands where Kaiser Wilhelm II sought refuge after the first world war..first I will show the cover and then what was inside !

Inside was a picture of the man himself..a good deal !

How cool is that? Nothing like an added bonus. Is that his real signature on the card? Either way it's a great postcard.

A couple of observations:
Empress Victoria is cluthching a couple of Reynards.

The wristlet (wrist watch) is not evident on the ladies.

They became fashionable for men after ww1

Real gentlemen, who carried pocket watches, were actually quoted as saying they would "sooner wear a skirt as wear a wristwatch". This all changed in World War I when soldiers on the battlefield found using a pocket watch to be impractical.

Hi Gents, sorry to hijack the postcard forum..but the topic seemed appropriate..as to the signature I would say its a reproduction..but we could check further !!

Either way it is still a great postcard.

David, I really hesitate to call the Kaisers picture a postcard..here is the message on the back..my wife thinks he is thanking an admirerer or someone for a donation !
