Figured this would the best thread to bring this up...
Really been enjoying these neatly done worldwide pages, where every space is filled. Always been my goal to have my albums look like that!
But then I saw this incredible video - stamps most of us (myself included) will only ever dream of - and there was something quite nice about the rather full look that they have, what with all of the duplicates and stamps on cover, etc.
Up until now, I've been keeping only my favorite of a given stamp for the album, with the duplicates set aside to sell/trade. But this has me thinking... maybe I should arrange the duplicates back in, especially if I like the cancel?
Would be interested to hear if people fall into Team One Stamp Per Space or Team Philatelic English Garden... no right or wrong answer!
Let me say there are some amazing stamps in that collection . Yes I wish I had those stamps .
But ask me what I think about organization and page layout ......well ??? I would tear up that album and remount the stamps and sell all those duplicates . Then buy the stamps to fill out each new mounted page .
For my albums, one stamp per space. Nothing in the margins. For varieties, interesting cancels, unlisted shades, etc. those go onto stock pages. It looks messy to have free-range stamps all over the place or hinged stamps stacked on top of each other. The only exception is if my (older) album pages don't include a space for a newer stamp in a set then I might add that additional stamp to the page if there is room, but it is a slippery slope.
I agree ZebraMan. I want everything to be as clean as possible. I almost never put a stamp anywhere other than it's intended location. However I'm working on transitioning everything to Steiner and I may mount some blocks or varieties every once in awhile on some of the pages that have a lot of empty space at the bottom but it won't be often.
Agree with ZebraMan , a lot of collections turn sloppy with the additional stamps added to the album page .
There is a limited to those additions ,I will add something with a note if anything extra is added ,like a different perf . or watermark . The only time I don't is if a shade is different and the page allows enough space were both stamps can be viewed next to each other . If a whole series needs to be mounted then a extra page is added . But a note is written to see the next page for more details .
Given the sometimes ample space around the stamps using Steiner pages, it's probably easier to add different perfs, colors, etc. If stamps have been issued as a pair or block I'll put the se-tenant pair or block and all the single stamps on their own as they are all assigned a number or sub-number.
