Hello all,

In this thread I will share with you Kingdom of Laos (1951-1975) engraved stamps and other items from my collection. Let's start with the first set from 1951:

Lao Woman - 1952.
Issued in 5 identical designs.

The woman served as a model to the artist to design this stamps is Nang Sangduane Soulivong:


The same design appears on two different banknotes and on a coin. Here is one of the banknotes:

The Great Oath Ceremony - Buddha Statues - 1953
Designer: Marc Leguay, Engravers: Charles-Paul Dufresne (4$) and Jean Pheulpin:

Mahaparinirvana - Buddha fully passing away the world and enter Nirvana state, meaning reaching full enlightenment, peaceful and happiness and will not rebirth.
16th century statue from Wat Xieng Thong, Luang Prabang:


Dhyânamudrâ - Buddha Statue in a gesture of meditating and concentration.
18th century statue from Wat Phra Keo, Vientiane:


"Buddha is calling to the rain".
17-18th century statue from Wat Phra Keo, Vientiane:


Bumisparshamudrâ - Buddha touches the earth with his right palm and calls it to testify for his spiritual achievements.

Abhayamudrâ - This position representing fearlessness or calming floods, quarrel between relatives etc.:


The left statue representing grandeur Buddha in B#251;misparshamudrâ – Buddha attesting the earth or victory of Buddha on Mara.

The right statue representing Abhayamudrâ – Buddha calming quarrel between relatives.
