I believe the "E" perfin on the Bavaria stamps is an official perfin, "E" for eisenbahn (railroad). I don't have a catalog handy but look in Michel under Bavaria official stamps.

Thanks Robert. I don't have a Michel cat., but I'll look in my Scott stuff. But, I think someone told me somewhere along the line that they do not cover Perkins. I haven't seen any yet but I'll look a little closer later on as I just received a specialized cat of theirs the other day and I have not examined it closely since this post.

Scott may have a note regarding the "E" perfin, but they won't have a listing with cat. no., value, etc.

Well, there is an E perfin used in Fürth mentioned in Rainer von Scharpen's catalog of Bavarian perfins, but these two "E" seem to be official perfins. I've got hundreds of them, and the value for common issues tends towards zero, even Michel says something else ...

Stamps4Life,

Sorry about the delay in responding. AFAIK, the ArGe Lochungen catalog is the only catalog for these. I don't know of an English-language one. I got the PDFs so I can carry them with me on my iPad. It's actually 30 separate PDFs, and it's really easy to navigate as long as you can make out what the first letter of the perfin is. It's available from the ArGe Lochungen website.

nothing in Scott re: E perfin.

Just to set the record straight, there is a note at the beginning of the Scott Bavaria official stamps listings, to wit, "Nos. 77-81, 84...perforated with a large E were issued for official use in 1912-16."

As Rod says, the stamps with the E overprints and E perfins are listed in Stanley Gibbons as railway officials.

SG lists one set of E overprints, R133-R137 (coat of arms design) from 1908.

Similarly, SG lists two sets with E perfins: SG R156-R161 (Prince Luitpold designs) from 1912 and SG R195-R198 (King Ludwig design) from 1914-16.

Thanks for the follow up. I thought only to look at the end of the issue for any info. and not in Officials description. Being new, I guess it didn't register to look there - don't know why except lack of experience in thinking it was an Official issue. Appreciate the follow up.

Concering the new catalog, I have - as member of the German ArGe - some more information.

They had their annual meeting one week ago, where the topic "new catalog" has been discussed. So now the new edition should be out quite soon, because everything is almost prepared already. There will be a new more numbering system, so the old edition maybe isn't on sale at the moment anymore.

And there will be a completely new ArGe website as well in the near future.
