Hi Rod,

B.M. - 13,15 - is Bank of Montreal, London

LC - 6,7 - had lots of users but this one is probably Lancaster Corporation given the postmark.

S&W - 10,14,16 - is not listed in my old catalogue but maybe was never used on postage stamps.

Hi Rod,

My old catalogue lists two S&W 10,12,16 dies (both for Salter & Whiter Ltd, silk & velvet manufacturers of London EC) but not your large die or the 13,13,15 die on eBay.

you might want to ing thuse software developed by University of Utah called "retroReveal" it's free and when a scan is entered in program it will provide 39 scans algorithm to hidden content on stamps, documents 7 manuscript porcessing the spectrum ~ taking out various colors for example a stamps color can be elliminated only leaving the black cancel ~ or improving the holes cut in Perfins
site is http://retroReveal.org
excellent site

I found this GB King George V with perfin in the back of an old album. It appears to be IL. Any ideas? Help is appreciated.

Hi GentlemanLeisure,

This IL (4,6) perfin is from Ilford Limited in Ilford, Essex.

The company makes photographic products such as film and papers and is now called Ilford Photo.

I remember using their 35mm film years ago.

Nigelc, Further to my thanks above. I am quite surprised at the commercial use of perfins in UK. I'm from Australia and I've only come across perfins from government departments. Do perfins add or detract from the value of a stamp which has not been perforated? Is there a market for 'perfin collectors'? I'm guessing prices would vary depending on scarcity of the particular perfin. I also used Ilford Film as a youngster. That must have been quite a bundle of film to necessitate a 5/- stamp back in 1937(?) Maybe the package was on its way to Australia. Cheers.

Unknown Perfins.
Scott numbers.

Guess: The CB perfin, may have a part Birmingham Pmk.

Hi Rod,

The first two are:

- CB - 36 - City of Birmingham

- LR/O - 7,12/10 - Lloyds Register of Shipping

This particular WDC die isn't in my old catalogue.
