As Chasa says, very useful indeed, thanks very much Nigel. Mystifying, I Googled IP/CN and missed the pdf, which was first in a list. For the record. CS = Corporation Sheffield. (1974 Sheffield Pmk) |

I was assuming that "CC" represented "County Council", but Gresley is in Derbyshire, which wouldn't really fit. I read the 1d red as "W", rather than "M" - a district council? |

Quote: but Gresley is in Derbyshire, Thank you Geoff ! I have agonised over that Postmark for hours, dashed if I could get it. Update : CHURCH GRESLEY Yep, could be M, I decided W was a better look front on I have 4 "County Councils" for MCC but they are all on Machins. No WDC in my database. |

The only one I can find in my old catalogue is a 46 pin single character "CB" from City of Birmingham.
There are few "S&B/Ld" dies but I don't see one for "S&B/Ltd". |

Quote: The only one I can find in my old catalogue is a 46 pin single character "CB" from City of Birmingham. I'll take that, 46 pins would be very close. Quote: There are few "S&B/Ld" dies but I don't see one for "S&B/Ltd". That's what I had in my database. I thought the missing d may be a typo. Quote: I wonder if this "M/CC" is from Mason Cash & Co. of Church Gresley?
I'll take that as well..........Thanks Nigel ...really appreciate your time. |

Is there any naming convention for interlocking letters in a Perfin? For example to discriminate against normal punctures in lines / rows ?
Citing CB City Birmingham as above.

The Tomkins catalogue usually lists the pin counts separately for each character.
A die with "CB" with each letter having 10 pins would be described as "10,10".
In this case the "CB" with 46 pins was just described as "46" with only one number.

May we have a scan of the front of the stamp please?
(Crown) / S*J Spear and Jackson. Sheffield. Note: A number of private firms, used a crown in their perfin design, before it was ruled out. Nice Perfin ! Spear and Jackson : Founded 1830 Garden Tools On Monday, I bought a "Spear and Jackson" Long handled Dutch Hoe, in a small country town in Western Australia. On the label : "Made in China" |
