Great Britain issued this set to commemorate the 900th
Anniversary of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 AD.
The stamps show various scenes from the famous Bayeux Tapestry
which depicts events before,during and after the battle
including where the Anglo-Saxon king Harold is struck by an
arrow in the eye and killed.

This October 21, 1944 pictorial cancel of Adorf, Saxony features a carpet. Inscription says, "known for its rugs".

Internet search for Adorf rugs and carpets came up empty. So, it appears that this craft is no
longer practiced there.

A vast wealth of knowledge here, on Indian Cotton and textiles, carpets designs etc.
Parts are very hard to read (for me anyway) but contains a wealth of knowledge for a dedicated student.
