Any Special About This Germany Cover?

I'm of no help here rizzi, except to say it's a very nice cover. Especially with the blue cancels. I also find the use of black wax on the seal interesting. You usually see red (the wax I mean).

The stamp itself is from the German State of Hanover, judging by the colour, SC#27 issued in 1864

Jamesw is correct about the stamp being from Hannover. What is curious to me, if you look closely to the nose of King George V, you will see a white 'blob', for a lack of a better word, and, it appears to be part of an "H"? While the stamp is Hannover, the cancel appears to be "HAMBURG"(?). If you look closely, you can see the left-hand stroke of the letter "H" in the cancellation. (Scan with close-up of the stamp) There is a 'blue' stroke by this blob.

Hamburg, as most members of the SCF forum most likely know, also issued their own stamps. I am just curious why it is cancelled "Hamburg"?

Can some member prove, or disprove this?

Many postal services operated in Hamburg, including Hannover, which operated a post office out of the main city post office.

Osnabruck was part of the Kingdom of Hannover, and after annexation by Prussia in 1866, the Province of Hannover. (I'm using the German spellings here, but you'll also find it listed as Hanover.)

Someone with more expertise on German postal history would have to confirm or deny this, but I suspect Hannover may have undertaken the delivery of this letter to Osnabruck.

In any event, Hamburg is listed in the list of Hannover straightline postmarks found in older Specialized catalogues.

I suppose I should have said "older Michel Germany Specialized" catalogues. Otherwise one might assume I meant Scott Classic.

Older Michels had more information regarding postmarks and offices that was taken out at some point - circa 1999, perhaps?

The stamp would have no value given how poorly it is centered combined with what appears to be a large surface scrape where the H would have been. The value is for someone who is interested in routes that mail was taking at that time in the German states.
