Adding Likes To Posts

First of all thank you for this wonderful site.
As an active member on other forums and a long-time reader of SCF, I think it would greatly benefit your members if they had the ability to "like" someone's post without having to rely on a comment alone to share their appreciation of it (which takes more effort).

From what I've seen, one of the main reasons collectors post images of their stamps is to simply share what they have with others! This is totally normal and good for the collector. But there are many threads where stamps are being uploaded for the purpose of sharing what they have, and only a few of the more extraordinary examples elicit responses from viewers, even though the previous examples may have been great in their own rights. They simply become overshadowed by the 'next best thing'.
This can inadvertently lead to competition where competition isn't necessarily warranted. And I've seen moderators even talk about how some people post "just to show off what they have".

In reality, I don't think there's anything wrong with showing off what we have as long as it elicits some kind of response.
This is the same for any community. If you go into a stamp club and show one of your pieces to a member, and that member's response is only to show their own back to you, it doesn't feel very good.
However, if they complimented your piece first then displayed their's after, you know it's the start of a healthy relationship.

I think adding likes will create a healthier atmosphere because the small effort of clicking a like button can have a huge effect on the self-esteem of the person receiving it.

I'm sorry, but no. It's not the first time it's been brought up, though. The entire purpose of a forum is posting so we've decided against it.

Agree no on "like"

Well, I can only wish Bobby will change his mind on it. Every time I enter a thread there are a number of stamps/covers I start drooling over (today being the US territorial covers), but it's hard to show appreciation via textbox for something posted years ago..

And since the likes are recorded, I could always be able to quickly relocate what I liked in the the past and reference it ( <---this is me still shamelessly trying )

There, always, are the Facebook groups where you can add as many likes as you would like. A lot of us abhor Facebook. Personally, I very much dislike turning this forum into a kind of Facebook group.

No harm in trying. I've been a member here since July of 2014, and have never read a post where Bobby (Forum Dad) has changed his mind.
Of course, I could have missed that post.

I realize this isn't a poll, but since this thread hasn't been locked yet, I'll add in my opinion of a "Like" button.

The desire to show appreciation isn't a Facebook thing. Perhaps a better question is, how might I show appreciation for a post without cluttering a thread with extra posts saying "wow, nice item!"?

I frequent a long running thread where the original poster often questions whether he should post more, because there appears to be no love for what he's doing. It's a shame he has to ask.

Not trying to change minds here! Only to share a different perspective.

Somewhere in the forum rules it is indicated one does not openly disagree with a moderator's decision with Bobby being the moderation god.

I will point out that in the page which shows the various topics since you last visit or some period of time, there is a column which lists the number of times the topic thread has been "read" (viewed) which gives a good idea of interest to folks.

So far no one on SCF has posted to get "likes" since there are no "likes" to receive. In my opinion, anonymous "likes" mean nothing since I have no idea who or why a post is being "liked." But now here are some words you, solomons_prayer, may recognize:


which I think is more significant than a clicked "like" button. That quote coupled with other comments you made explains what it is you liked about the posts unlike just clicking a button.
