Jorge I agree with you regarding the quality and sharpness of engraved stamps
compared to much of the modern mishmash printed whether via photogravure
or offset/litho.
There is just no comparison.
Then again when you say

well, the past always seems better.
I cant agree with that.
For instance the computer has enhanced our lives in many ways for the better.
When I was going to high school I didnt even have a typewriter to write up
my projects. No printer or scanner, all I had was carbon paper to make a copy
of my handwritten pages.
No Wikipedia. I actually had to read books. LOL
The bad thing of course now kids can't read or write cursive or read books but
that's another story.
Scanning has added so much to our hobby. Before I would peer over stamps
with a magnifying glass until my eyes went batty.
Now I scan and can study the images and see things on stamps which I never
noticed before.
Wow, what a change.....for the better.
The internet has allowed us to meet fellow collectors all over the world and discuss
our various interests and ask questions.
For most of my collecting life I was a loner and the little info I got was from Linn's Weekly
and some British stamp magazines I bought infrequently because they were expensive.
Of course I also had Scott catalogs, only 2 volumes in those days.
The good thing is that even though most stamps printed in the last 30 years are
crap, there is still so much good stuff from before to keep us busy for a long time.
Yes it is a pity they don't print stamps like this anymore.
