Sverige Stamp With Different Colour Of 1 Alphabet

This Sverige stamp has one alphabet R in in the word Sverige. It is red brown compared to other alphabets which are just brown. Have been trying to find this variety online but to no avail. Will appreciate if anyone has any idea about this variety and a catalogue number will be very helpful. Thanks for your help.

SG 1078 (issued 1981) was certainly not printed in two colours!

It looks strange, but I think the poor condition of the stamp may be the cause of the strangeness. The general reddish colour may be the result of soaking or prolonged exposure to light. Compare this, from my own collection, which I think is closer to the correct colour, "deep dull purple", but still displays some uneven colouring in places:

Question that may be slightly off subject but you specified color as "deep dull purple" & I'm assuming that is from SG. Scott lists color as "violet brown". Do catalogs vary in descriptions a lot. I have never accessed any catalog other than Scott so that difference surprises me. Who would normally establish the color definition??

Yes, they vary. The catalogue editor determines the colour. Colours, especially, for older stamps are bands of colour.

Michel Katalog calls the 2.40Kr violettpurpur which translates as violet-purple.

Here is a scan of mine which IMO is pretty close to the colour I see by eye.

Sulphurized stamp.
Essentially the red pigment turns brown and black over time.
You can try to apply a 4% solution of hydrogen peroxide to the stamp surface with a cotton swab.
