Inherited A Large Collection - Looking For Info

I am a long-time member of the coin forum. Just inherited a large collection of stamps and will be looking for more info on them. Mainly, U.S. stamps from the early to mid-20th century. From what I can tell, most of them are fairly common.

Thank you for the quick response, @CaptainStamp. The stamps are in a large hardback binder called "The Scott's National Postage Stamp Album." Some are cancelled and glued onto pages in the binder, some are in small clear envelopes stuck in the binder and some are loose singles or plates of 4 in small, opaque paper envelopes. I will endeavor to spend some time photographing a few for context - as the folks on the coin forum will tell you, my photography skills leave a lot to be desired.

That's ok, the important is that we can see the stamps correctly, you should take a picture of most of them separately, or in small lots of 3 or 4

The 20 cents one haves an interesting cancellation but again, we need a specialist. Wait and you'll have more people answering to your topic.

Thus far these are common issues as you'd figured out. The earlier are in rough shape; stamps don't hold up to use nearly as well as coins.
The third photo you show of what we call the "Fourth Bureau" issue are in better condition, and the mounting indicates to me that the collector was taking some care to make it look nice, but was not spending on stamps, otherwise many of the empty spots would be filled.
So I think it is a beginners collection.

Please do post some more photos of sections of the album. Are there back of book pages? our term for airmail, postage due, special delivery, or revenue and other special purpose stamps?

Thanks, again, for the welcome and replies. I will probably start another thread in the appropriate subforum to post more photos. The two problems I face right now are unfamiliarity with some of the terms used in stamp collecting (thanks, @jleb1979, for explaining the ones you used) and not knowing the different groups of stamps such as the "Fourth Bureau" mentioned. I hope to gain knowledge on these and other topics.

To your question, there are a few air mail stamps, postage due and special delivery (I think) stamps in the binder. This collection belonged to my late father-in-law and it looks like he has stamps through the seventies. There are many loose stamps in protective covers that were not put into the book - should I add them in a way that preserves their current condition (he had taped some into the book while keeping them in the protective covers) or just keep them loose?

An important note, though, is that some of those stamps are mounted in clear Crystal mounts. This are the ones where you put them in from the side. Those mounts have proven to be historically BAD for stamps for a variety of reasons. You may want to remove them, carefully, and put into a simple stock book, carefully, for now.
