Any idea when these may have been printed?

The card proofs were NOT printed in 1873. (I can't tell from the scan if these are India or card). Scott is partially right in the front matter to the proofs and essays section; there were multiple printings of card proofs ranging from 1879 to 1894. They can be distinguished by thickness. They really aren't even "proofs" in the traditional sense since they were produced *after* the issuance of the stamps.

These are card stock according to the seller. I will measure thickness when they arrive. This one is a learning process for me. For 5 bucks each I thought they were worth getting.

Or for $50 you can buy the whole set.

I've found that it usually costs more to put together a set of proofs than to buy complete sets. The first few may feel inexpensive, but the last few end up costing much more.

The States are a great example of what alub says. Those dollar values will be challenging. If you get a chance at a set, take it.
