According to the Scott catalog, in 2004 Germany issued a 55c Camellia (flower) stamp. in both gummed and S/A. The S/A is Scott 2294. This one has a 2004 date inscription on it.
2294a is a booklet which has (5) each 2294 and 2228. Now, the 2298 is the same design except it's Roses instead of Camellias. It had been released in 2003 and has a 2003 date inscription on it.
Here's my conundrum: Does this booklet (2294a) have Camellias with 2004 date and Roses with 2003 date? It seems to me that they'd have changed the date on the Roses since it was being packaged with a 2004 stamp in a 2004-issue booklet.
I wondered whether Scott ignored the date change. Sometimes they don't make new numbers but just mention new dates on the otherwise same stamp as a notation. I can't find ANY Roses with a 2004 date inscription on them.
I also can't find an image of this complete booklet anywhere on the Internet.
What do you think? Was there a "2004" dated Roses, Scott 2228, or did they mix up date inscriptions in the same 2004 booklet?
According to images on the German eBay, the dates in the booklet are mixed 2003/2004. You can find them by searching for "MH55" in the German stamps section ("Briefmarken"/"Deutschland").
Sure does look like they're mixed dates in that booklet. So...no Roses with a 2004 date.
I'm really glad to not be wondering about it--otherwise I'd be checking every one I get from now till Doomsday looking for a 2004 date that just don't exist :-}
