Klawbohr,
So where is the minor DT on the 3 cent Columbian?
The layout lines will wear away, so why not a chronology of his stamp printed first, then yours from a more worn plate as it gradually disappears? Bottom line, we need to see his side by side,

It is possible to get the cracked plate of #700 in a vertical plate block of eight.

Scott 700 is a rotary issue. The panes of 100 have selvage on all 4 sides. Any #700 with a straight edge must be a trimmed copy.
The plate number in the plate block (positions 9, 10, 19, 20) is adjacent to the corner stamp, thus position 30 is just below the UR plate block of 4, right column, so position would indeed appear in a block of 8 (or 6 for that matter).

All I know is that I have a MNH plate block of 8 in a vertical format which includes the cracked plate. 8, not 4.

I didn't ask a question, I made a comment. Which others seemed to disagree with.

So you answered your own Question?

I am aware your reply was to revcollector, but Klawbohr, it should have also answered your question several posts ago of:

Quote:
I don't know the layout of these plates well enough to know for sure, I have seen the stamp both perforated on 4 sides and I have seen it also with a straight right edge. I have not seen a multiple of this item, or with the plate #, but then again I have not looked. Sorry, I don't know more about it

It all shows the importance of understanding the plate layout for sheets, booklets, and coils; for flat, offset and rotary printings, for guide lines vs joint lines vs residual layout lines vs scratches, vs cracks, natural straight edges vs trimmed, etc., etc.

I don't own a copy of the bison crack, nor desire to, nor collect plate varieties. It's a matter knowing basic plate layout and applying it to various situations.
In this specific case, knowing that a straight edge copy of #700 must be a trimmed copy.

I would also like to point out that although a used example of the cracked plate catalogs a whole $1, I have never seen one. Ever. And I have been looking for some years now.

Scott #300 with a cracked plate catalog's for $0.30, used. I'd be happy to pay double that.
