So I was going through some stamps and found these 2 marked on the back - rouletted or "roul" I'm guessing... Thoughts - yes/no? I clearly see on one of the stamps the edges were cut (im guessing) on 2 sides. The other seems to be jagged edged on all 2 sides.

Also, guess as to what the number is in the diamond cancel?

Hi Stamps4Life,

If they are rouletted I'd guess they were done privately.

The numeral in the diamond is a 14 of the London Inland Office.

They are not the official rouletted stamps.

The righthand stamp appears rouletted on its righthand side, although that may also be clumsy handling of a scissor. As you wrote already, the top and lefthand side of that same stamp have been cut. There is no way rouletted stamps are cut on some sides.

As for the second stamp, that looks rather like someone tore of the stamp.

The Archer rouletting is quite pronounced (wavier). Also, it is unlikely they were ever used.
These come from plates 70 and 71.

I am a novice. I see maybe a few marks that could be rouletted, but the stamps are in poor shape. I am not even sure if they were rouletted if they fall into the correct time period or Alphabet range. I am just trying to learn the alphabets. Here is the wmk from one of them. I cannot see the other clearly.

It appears to be type I, alphabet I, which would be correct for plates 70/71.

Yes, but recorded examples come from PA - TL and OG - RL, right?

Looking at the picture on my phone I can see the number is 65.

So I have another question - this QA has a bluish outline around the check letters and frame. Thoughts as to what this is? The paper does not seem to be heavily blued, but im told this is plate 56 which is on blue paper. Prussiatte of potash outline? Seems to have a somewhat different coloring around the frame and check letters, yes?

It could very well be the Prussiate of potash in the ink from the outer frameline reacting with the damp paper for printing.
It is not the first time I have seen such a blue frame.

Thank you NSK. I have seen in another post, I cannot remember where, another Variety of letter outlining that was not due to the Prussiate. More purple I think - but cannot recall it now
