Very sad news. He gifted me a box of old issues of Postal Stationery a little over a year ago. |

So sad. I like the comment that he was one of the sharper knives in the draw with his wit and words. |

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example. I collect for enjoyment, not investment. APS Member #223433 Postmark Collectors Club Member #6333 Meter Stamp Society Member #1409 |

As did others, I enjoyed his posts, the witty ones and questions. Got some off board advice from him which was generously given, too. Condolences to his family. |

That is sad, a true lateral thinker his posts were always entertaining and often informative.
Ikey first made my acquaintance on another forum where I had offered a box full of philatelic journals from various societies free to anyone who was prepared to pay the postage. Ikey PM'd me to say that if anyone wanted them but could not afford the postage he would be prepared to pay half rather than see them land up in recycling.
Truly generous in spirit and in deed, he will be missed. Clive

A true story to cap this. On 11 February I traveled to Austin, Texas on family business, a date that had been worked out in December. I booked into the historic Driskill Hotel downtown (opened 1886) in order to be able to walk around and see things. The "Valentine's Day freeze" struck, I was unable to travel home on 15 February and spent 5 more unplanned days sitting in the hotel room waiting for flights to resume. It did offer the opportunity to fully explore the Driskill, and in idle time, I found myself recalling that Ikey loved the "Old Hotels" postcard thread here: http://goscf.com/t/33043So I started trolling eBay for covers with Driskill Hotel corner cards to have as a souvenir of my imprisonment there, with the thought of sharing it with Ikey as well. I submitted a bid on 18 February and forgot about it. I made it home on 19 February, won the auction on 21 February and received the cover on 26 February, the same day as Bobby's original post here. So another tip of the hat to Ikey, who will always have a connection to this cover in my collection. |

We didn't have the same collecting interests, so I've only seen I'm sure a small % of his posts, but what a witty guy, and very funny and I bet in person he had that rare quick wit! Will miss him on SCF and I send thoughts and prayers.... |

I am sorry to hear this and my condolences to his family and close friends. Once when I was fairly new to the forum I mistakenly posted a picture of a FDC in a postal stationary thread … I knew better, I had just gotten in a hurry and posted the wrong image. Ikey sent me a very kind private message which gave me the opportunity to remove my post and not look like an even bigger idiot than I already am . On another occasion he took the time to give me a detailed answer to a question I had. His kindness I'll always remember. |
