I have been putting together a collection for exhibit which depicts Freedom of Speech, the Press and Religion on worldwide postage stamps and covers.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Does it seem it would make for an interesting exhibit?

I personally have not seen anything like that and think that it would be very interesting. Better hurry up before your First Amendment right to speak about the First Amendment disappears or is limited to approved thought.

Have you identified any particular material that fits the bill?

This US 1943 1c Liberty holding a Torch stamp came to mind. A collection of different FDCs would be interesting.

The US 1994 Norman Rockwell souvenir sheet features paintings The Four Freedoms (!943) inspired by the 1941 State of the Union address by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Bobby,
The best way to elicit responses is to "prime the pump" and show some of your own items.

Thank you for the quick friendly responses. I will post some of the material I have collected, I think it includes all the stamps suggested, plus many more on topic.

Right now I am still having trouble posting items on this site (uploading photos or scans, I should say).

But I think I am getting closer to figuring that out

This began about the First Amendment but turned into the Four Freedoms which is not the same thing at all. In organizing stamps, the topic might be better conceived of as "human freedoms" before narrowing it down into specific freedoms or specific human rights. At least I'd do it that way.

The First Amendment place five restrictions on the government (these are not restrictions on "people" which is what many mistakenly think). Government is prohibited from restricting religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, assembling peaceably, or petitioning the government. FYI.

What exactly does this mean? Is this part of legislation up for a vote?

A comment like this may hijack a nice thread.

Some very nice stamps here now. I was thinking of all topics around the 1st Amendment, not all human rights. Including depictions of the use of those rights protected by the First from government intrusion. So items related to press and printing might have some place as do religious freedom from interference.

Interestingly, from my perspective, I consider myself to have been a human rights lawyer, prosecuting genocide, torture, and the use of child soldiers (now retired) and the interference with first amendment rights often lead to some of those offenses.

I would post some of my material if I could just figure out how to upload the photos. The tutorial on this forum hasn't helped me enough
