I saw this thread started yesterday while I was at work (don't tell the boss that I was surfing the net at work!!!) and have been chomping at the bit to see how it would develop and to participate a bit myself. Looking over my #1's, it is apparent that I am obsessed with cancels, so here it goes.... Here is a #1 with Orange Red cancel and a #2 with Red Orange cancel - at least that is how they were described when I got them: I used to go to school in Troy New York, and I started collecting that area many years ago. I've got a bunch of those, but this is my only scan that is under 200K. They are all in the bank, so I cannot re-scan them, and my software changes the colors when I try to edit their size. GRRRR! Troy NY: Green cancel on cover: |

Very impressive stamps from everyone. I'm quite jealous. Scott 1 Scott 1a Scott 1b (Thought this was a 1. PF thought otherwise.) Scott 2 (Diagonal crease lower left. Still like it) Now I just need the funds for some on cover. Sigh. Really like the posts so far. |

Nice group bankruptcollector! (Love the name.) The margins on your #2 are fantastic. |

Hobsun, I love the Troy & New York Steamboat cancel!!! One on cover would be my Holy Grail. I still don't have one off cover, either. I have a bunch of 1851's on and off cover, but no 1847's... yet. |

Thanks, Mooter. The moniker aptly describes my current state, especially when there are so many choice items up for auction during the next two weeks.
Your #1 cover with the green cancel is impressive.

Thanks, widglo and bankruptcollector. I got the orange-red/red-orange stamps separately. I wasn't trying to make a 'pair', but they just ended up being a beautiful set of bookends. I just liked the way the coloration popped. |

Another area I enjoy is 1847 issue covers in combination with carrier or local post stamps. This is a G.A. Mills' Despatch local stamp (109L1). This is from the Gross III sale last year. |

A neat cover I picked up awhile back. Philadelphia Rail Road. |

New York & Philadelphia Railroad marking (the CDS not the straight-line) on cover with Bloods 15L8 local. The name was cut-out of the address panel, but a scarce combination with only 4 covers recorded |

Another Philadelphia Railroad, this time a #2 with Bloods 15L13. The 1847s in combination with 15L13 are pretty common, with almost 100 covers recorded, but only 14 covers are franked with a #2. |

I see a fair number of Phila RR straightlines, but not so many of the CDS. Is the CDS that much scarcer, or, since its a CDS, maybe it just doesn't stand out as much? |
