ZebraMan,

This example sold at Siegel Sale 1026, Lot #1195 for $225.

Description:
30c Orange (38). Original gum, magenta crossed-lines control mark, insignificant corner crease noted on accompanying certificate, Very Fine appearance, scarce, the crossed-line marks are found on various 1857 Issue values and were probably applied as a specimen mark, with 1982 P.F. certificate

Certificate - 1982 PF

I have one as well. Likely from the same sheet.

Thanks Stan.

Regarding your other question, there is an active thread on plating the 12c Washington (17, 36, 36B), you should post the picture there --

Technically these don't have perfs, but a little further past the actual 1857 perf stamps in the album, there are proofs for 37, 38, and 39 hiding on a page with some of the Columbians. Likely not as sought after as the issued ones, but still interesting to look at (and the closest I'll get to a Scott 39 for a while).

From left to right I've tentavely identified them as 37-P3, 38-P3, and 39-P3

I went back to my Jeffersons once again after acquiring my nicer scanner and borrowing a copy of RH White's Color Encyclopedia from Spellman (which is very interesting to read actually), and I am pretty confident that the pale red 5C Jefferson is a 27 Brick Red. However, if we move two stamps to the right there is another specimen that has a reddish hue that I would consider a candidate for 28 Brown Red or even 28a Indian Red. If it is so, it would be a good comparison as to how 27 is much paler compared to the Indian Red that has a higher catalog value.

Of course anything I state here will require a certification to be pretty confident, but there is a noticeable enough hue to notice and consider this situation. I inserted a 2nd pic of what I am pretty confident is a Scott 29 that is on the same page and thus same lighting conditions. Lots of conjecture, but it's quite fun!

Possible 27, possible 28 or 29, possible 28a

Mr. 29

If you haven't seen this, you might want to take a look. Looks like someone stumbled on a Type Ia, possibly unused.

If you are into the 5 cent Jefferson and want your mind blown take a look at this exhibit by Larry Bustillo which I have posted in the past:

rog- I do remember you posting this, because I perused all the way to the end looking to see if there was going to be a #80 or #80a.

What a collection and exhibit!

I have these marked as #32 and #33. Any reason to suggest this is not correct?

Nicholas, looks like you have them ID'd correctly.
The 32 is complete at the top and also has the guide dot above the UL "X".
The 33 is incomplete at the top and bottom.
Hope this helps, Ray
