A non-3c, or 1c stamp for a change ...
Granted, the stamp is a bit hard to see, but its a Scott #12, 5c imperforate.

One of only two recorded western express (Wells Fargo) usages franked with a #12.
This is part of a paste-up.

Classic, understood. Another look will still help me with future plating.

Txstamp, very nice #12. I agree something different is much needed after my last few days of posting.

Well that cover is probably more valuable than my entire collection of 3c stamps and covers…

Ok I'll bite. I don't think I posted this here yet.

Its 91L5L, with the 11th row effect at bottom.

That's a beautiful stamp, and an excellent example of the 11th row effect, txstamp! Thanks for showing it.

Somehow I lost the plating notes for this stamp. Luckily I had uploaded it to Stamp Smarter some time ago so I was able to re-plate it.
Had it out so thought I'd re post a pic.

Here is an #11A, position 3R1L (the other line through THREE CENTS double transfer) on a February 16, 1852, Philadelphia to Chester County PA folded letter sheet (ex-Amonette). The stamp color is brownish carmine.

In the two-page letter, Samuel F. Froth writes to his son John F. Froth about the health of family members including mother in bed with Erysipelas, Aunt Henriette with Inflamation of the lungs, and Samuel Henry who may have a cold or is cutting teeth.

Here is an #11A from position 52L2L with a lot going for it including today's date, February 23. I acquired this stamp 24 years ago, and it has always been a favorite of mine for several reasons:

- It has fresh brownish carmine color
- The impression is clear
- It has a Variety #27 recut – Top Label & Upper Right Diamond Block Joined at Top
- It has a bold cancel that doesn't obscure Washington's face
- It shows light extra lines alongside the recut right frame line and inner line near the UR rosette. These extra lines are likely the lines that got lightly transferred from the master die. The two lines that were recut by hand in this area just don't align with the original lines.

Probably a Mobile CDS.

Those earlier impression 3c stamps - the 1852 brownish carmines often have terrific sharp impressions and are quite attractive such as the one you just posted. It really shows the extensive detail in the design.

Today, I've been looking through a nice small US stamp collection. There was several great classic stamps and there was four 1851-57 Three cents Washington in a not really awesome condition but still ok. I choose two ones to buy and I got these two Three cents for a correct price: 16.25 $ CAD. I'll show you some scans soon.

I'm pretty excited because, before buying those, I haven't plated them. Can't wait to know the plate and the exact position! I choose some with the best margins to make the plating step easier. I pretty like the grill cancellations too, even if they're not rare.

Here they are. Sorry for the small hair in the scans, lol.

Any thoughts about these stamps?

And, by the way, can I have a picture example of a gouged diamond block?
