The 2 c. stamp with the overprint commemorates the 100th anniversay of Chiriqui Province, in Panama, in 1949. Don't have Scott catalog for Panama stamps, so cannot tell you the number. The 1 c. "Star of Panama"air mail is interesting, commemorates the centennial of the founding of La Estralla de Panama newspaper in 1853. Don't have a Scott number for that one either. Sorry.

It is an overprint for the commemoration of 100 years of the province of chiriqui

An overprint - yes that is what I thought - but was not 100% sure. Thank you so so much for your reply - Everyday I learn more. Who knew I would fall in love with stamps.

Ok, I think I got it - these would also be overprints? In particular the second brown stamp. Thank you.

When an overprint (like 50c) changes the amount the stamp is paying for it can be referred to as a "surcharge."

"Pictorial" overprints, like Mrita75's Panamanian are interesting, and sometimes a little odd, like this Bermudez overprint from Peru.
