Wonderful thread... thanks, everyone for sharing. I've posted this before, but it fits, and is still lovely.

Great France stamp. Wonderful colors. Would like to see the original painting of Chagall. A good reason to travel. Daniel

Why is it, I can, at the drop of a hat, appreciate
and enjoy early man's interpretation with art on a cave wall,
yet with some modern art,I have real trouble, and always feel
I am being conned?

Marc Chagall is a case in question, I have trouble with
his stained glass in both Israeli philately (the 12 tribes of Jacob)
and the United Nations stained glass issues.

That is not a criticism of his work, it's just I have a
hard time appreciating it.

Yet, if we look at Romania's Brancusi, and his modern sculpture
I adore it.
This is very strange.

I'm fine
kids are not generally pretentious.

(That centre picture from a 10 year old is not bad at all!)

Rod,

Sorry you aren't fond of Chagall's glass....

Have you seen the windows in the Art Institute in Chicago? Maybe not... Last I was there they'd been removed from their original location for conservation and were to be reinstalled in the new wing. It is some of my favorite work... but I do agree, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Here's link. I couldn't figure out how to reduce it enough to copy here.

Just one word does say it all with Chagall's glass "Fantastic"
