No, shermae, I was not playing games. Instead, I was trying to play by the rules and not post any outside link. As for wasting your time with my unsearchable name there, see the above snapshot. Oh, snap! I don't want to joke about the unsearchable name by you, and say "Watchu talkin' about, Willis?", because maybe you won't appreciate my American TV quote. My point is that we can write philatelic articles in websites, and most of them can be read gratis. |

floortrader and shermae, I have emailed both of you a free "friend link" to my latest philatelic article at Medium. Please forgive me if you (still) consider that "a waste of time", my 2 minute story. I am trying to globally promote philately, and especially maximaphily. I will not get rich in the process, I might specify. |

Spent a couple hours remounting select MNH stamps in my original 1978 Scott National. Way back then, just a teenager, I wound up using mounts that were really too small. Pretty sure I used sizes recommended by the local dealer. The stamps look so cramped to me now. Maybe the mounts shrank. No idea. Anyway, I bought new mounts that are 1mm bigger and now the stamps are much happier. I've also decided to have this album hold only MNH stamps (for now), so I removed all the used stamps. |

Quote: Steiner based page to cover the U.S. 1847 and 1851-57 imperforate stamps Nicholas, I might be way off base here, but your #9, looks like a Type II to me (#7). These stamps are difficult sometime, because the thicker border on bottom can look like a recut (especially on Plate 2, IIRC), but the blur on top also looks like a Plate 2, Type II stamp. Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong on SCF, but I thought I'd mention this, and maybe Dudley, who knows Plate 2 as well as anyone in the hobby, could chime in if he sees this. Hope I'm right here-- #7 is a more valuable stamp than a #9. Good Luck, Ray |

Ray, thanks for the comment. I was looking at what were being offered as #7 the other day and looked at my stamp and was wondering the same thing. I have to take a closer look. I had posted a better image in the 1851-1857 Imperforate topic, but no one there mentioned it might be a #7. I had also posted what I was told was a #15 that turned out to be a #14. Here's that other post: http://goscf.com/t/72775&whichpage=210#811826 |

Ever regret passing up some stamps that you might admire --for whatever reasons -- and want to keep, but they don't fit in with your "conventional" collections? I did. I have a couple of "conventional" collections. So I decided to do something about those regrets and I created an additional collecting "topic." It's stamps that I like -- for whatever reasons. Most are just beautiful stamps or ones that depict something that I particularly admire -- or whatever. I make my own album pages -- each with the heading "Some of My Favorite Stamps." I've so far got more than 2,000 stamps on those pages. Boy, is it fun! |

I just received a measuring magnifier which can measure about 0,1 mm. I will use it for begining my sorting of QEII definitives stamps (Machin's head). I also manage to repair a professional UV light (short wave). It's quite better than those little ones sold for philatelist. In the same time, I got a big bunch of Machin in booklets (pre decimal, mint) and began to make my own album pages for them (using the Deegam handbook)… yesterday I got more than 20 kilos of them used on paper. I see Machin's head everywhere now |

Quote: 20 kilos??? Holy smokes! 20 kilos from which 90% are Machins and 6x1 kilo from which almost everything is Machin. My kiloware dealer is retiring, there was a huge discount . |

With all those stamps you're sorting through, it's going to become a whole hassle |

Quote: With all those stamps you're sorting through, it's going to become a whole hassle You might be right, it's overwhelming sometimes. But I don't see it as something I have to finish absolutely. It's just a fun activity and when it become boring, I go after another activity like walking the dogs or anything else. Moreover, there's so much different field of interest in philately, and so much things you can do concerning your collection that you can shift to another one when your actual focus become annoying. Once again, I think that the point is to not thinking of this as something to finish absolutely. It would be definitely an hassle if I feel comited to do everything in a limited time span. |
