Today's mail brought me a copy of the Perfin catalog published by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Lochungen e.V. im BDPh (Perfin Study Group of the German Stamp Society).
If anyone has any German perfins they'd like me to look-up, just post them here.
For many of the perfins, there are several options. The same perfins were used by multiple companies in multiple locations, often at the same time. The cancel locations and dates may narrow some of these down a bit.
K&C -- This stamp was valid from March 1924 - 31 July 1930

St -- There are two almost identical versions of the "St" perfin. There's a very small difference in size of the perfin, measured from middle of the top hole to middle of the bottom hole.

1. I was never aware Perfins were duplicated, I thought every one was unique to each company. 2. The FF I would never have suspected, I was reading "TI" or a T with a German Cross.

Actually, now that I look at it closer, it appears to be a partial MB. Rod, if you've got easy access to the stamp or your original scan, is there any evidence of partial perforations that would complete an MB?
I've also ordered that catalog, Rod, but it hasn't arrived yet. It covers Austrian perfins on Germans stamps.
There is a discrepancy in a couple of descriptions. For example, rod22's example identified as "K&C" is not K&C but, is "K & / C"(or read as "K & over C"). Perfin collectors have to be aware of the exact 'pattern' they are examining because it could mean another user had that particular pattern. A real "K&C" would be all on one line. Another example would be the "PA" perfin, which is described correctly here. However, with perfin collectors, be sure it is w/o 'periods' because a PA perfin versus a "P.A." perfin could be an entirely different user.
Sorry if I sound fussy, but that is the nature of the perfin beast It is important to note if there are with, or without periods, and, if they are one line or more etc.

If it is full of holes, keep it. It might be a perfin (I used this often behind my name)
I forgot to mention in my last posting that the tallness (height) of the letters are important too. Again, I will use rod22's example of "PA". The example shown here is 5 pins high. The letters "PA" can also be found 4 or 6 or more letters high and this goes for the "A" as well. Again, the pin numbers 'could' mean a different user.
Perfin collectors should not try to use my answers to Rod as indicative of what they have. Take the K&C, for example. There are about 15 separate varieties listed in the catalog, and it's difficult to tell them apart without seeing the visual example.

I agree with you 100%. What I was trying to do is point out that serious perfin collectors do take these variables into consideration. I also agree that there are so many variables with most given patterns and, this applies to many countries that had numerous patterns used.
I appreciate the fact that you are willing to share your information gleaned from the German reference book, and I thank you for that. Please don't take my posting as a contradiction to you personally, but I was stating my points on a general scale.
