I had a nice delivery of 52 South West Africa covers, dating from between 1914 and 1922. SWA fore-runners if you will. They need a bit of sorting out, writing up and mounting. Hopefully will get round to scanning and posting some images some time. Still looking for a copy of Putzel though, but I may be on to something.

I got the latest Mystic catalog and some promising-looking envelopes that likely contain my latest eBay purchases. They're waiting for me on my kitchen table. I got them out of the mailbox just as I was leaving for work, so I haven't opened them yet. It'll be a fun evening.

Received an auction catalogue, which includes this odd little item - Edward VII half-crown with menu printed on the reverse:

Oceanguy,
What kind of US album did you get? What brand?

Hi Jaxom100,

It is a Harris Liberty Stamp Album, it came with some stamps, so was a great way to start a new collecting area more in depth for a great price. It only goes to the mid 80's, so I am going to need to print some new pages to add to it.

It was a great day at the mailbox today.
I got the items I was hoping to get over the weekend when I have more time.
I picked up 1954-56, 1970 and 1974 MNH Canada year sets plus some extras.
The first group is all MNH except the MH 1/2c Jubilee.
Who leaves on the extra selvedge and who removes it for looks in their album?

Also got some newer MNG stamps since the Canadian PO and the USPS decided not to cancel them. Nice block of 8 on the $2 stamp.
Three envelopes from Canada (to US) that were not cancelled.

The presence of any bit of selvage is a clue to plate position, so it is hard to remove.

OTOH, for many collections - new issues, topicals, etc - I can understand anyone thinking that selvage is more of a distraction than a source of valuable philatelic information.

Don't be surprised if some people remove the selvage for certain collections, and retain it for others.

What would be fun is to find is the guy who floats a stamp off of a cover, removes the selvage, and then glues the stmap back into place.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

I have received over the last few days: 1 We R memory keepers binder and a Lighthouse Vario G binder. I am evaluating various binders to see if I can find some better.
