These were on the box, and a vintage Scott National album was in the box.

I got this perfin today, and for me it's like an early christmas.
There are two things that make this stamp so special. So what about a little quiz? Maybe there's a Sherlock Hol(m)es out there

I will have a try. The stamp from TommTomm is a German stamp used/cancelled in Mondsee Austria. Date looks to be 8.5.1945 or even 8.10.1945 In both cases this stamp is without overprint and would probably not be allowed?. The perfin reads as lanz. This maybe the Traktor company or Spedition Lanz? Maybe all wrong, but I just had to try. Regards, Johan.

More of a guess on this one...Mondsee was related to "The Sound of Music"?

Very good all of you!

The first special thing is, that this is an Austrian perforation on a German stamp. They are not only seldom (just 170 different perfins known), but very difficult to find as well. Usually you have to hunt for hidden Austrian cancellations in German Reich stamp auctions. The company was "Lanz" and from the town of Salzburg. Very famous for traditional clothing, and still successful nowadays ( http://www.lanztrachten.at/lt/?lang=en ).

The second thing is - as you noticed - the date. The stamp was cancelled on the day of the German capitulation. Salzburg was handed over to the US troops some days before (on the 4th), and the local issues in Mondsee started at 11th - so I suggest, that this stamp must have been on one of the last letters sent without overprints. Why it was sent from Mondsee? On the 6th of May the US authorities stopped the postal, telegraphic, and telephone communication in Salzburg completely. So this maybe was the only way to send something these days - from Upper Austria.

For me the date is nice, but I'm so happy to have found this Austrian/German Lanz perfin anyway.

My wife had a post-work meeting tonight, so I was on my own when I woke up this afternoon. Usually I go to the grocery to find dinner, but tonight I had decided to just eat leftovers or run out for something quick. Then I went to get the mail. I'd ordered a large lot of US postage stamps several days ago via Ebay, but they were to be delivered tomorrow according to Ebay. Happily they were wrong. I wound up fixing myself a sandwich and spent the whole afternoon and evening sorting stamps. I'm just starting back in the hobby after a long layoff, so much of the assortment was stuff I needed, but there were a few pretty cool surprises in the mix. My wife laughed when she got home, but I enjoyed myself, and it keeps me out of the bars.

Got in a parcel from Netherlands yesterday. Stamp scan(s) attached

Three things of interest (to me) are the two .39 Euro skating stamps. These are hologram format. Move them and the skaters legs move. Next is the 7 Euro lighthouse souvenir sheet. (close up below). The top triangle in the upper right, and the triangle middle-upper left, both glow when taken into a dark room (showing the lighthouse beams). NEAT!
You all should try and get one of these if you collect Netherlands....

I finally got in the Japanese 1000+ different lot I picked up.
I only buy random stamps like this if the ad has the the word "different" in it.
I do not like kiloware with multiple duplicates.
This will be an interesting lot. I have copies of the original scans (20 vario pages).
I wonder if my best way to attack it would be to replicate these pages to put in the album easier?
