This series of Chinese New Year stamps contains a variety of design styles including graphic art, wood carving, ancient paintings, and modern paintings.
The 1971 rat has a block of 4 design, and only one quarter of the block is shown here.

Second Round Chinese Zodiac Stamps
1980 - 1991
The stylized design by Chu-Mei Chuang adopts a round configuration to symbolize reunion and completeness. The Chinese zodiac animals are: rat, ox, tiger, hare, dragon, serpent, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig.

Animals of the Lunar New Year cycle, issued by Hong Kong on January 22, 2011:

Note: all these stamps were issued during the previous 12 years as gold and silver embossed. Each year two embossed stamps were issued: The past year as silver embossed stamp and the new year as gold embossed stamp. Here are examples:

End of the Year of the Ram and the beginning of the Year of the Monkey - January, 2004:

End of the Year of the Monkey and the beginning of the Year of the Rooster - January, 2005:
