Amazing considering that he did not discover America. How many stamps honour Vespucci then?

Hola!

During the first 50 years the chilean stamps have Colon's images !!

I do not know if there is another country whith this record.

Here some very well knowded for the chilean stamps collectors:

Colon - Napoleon (he looks like the emperor):

Colon - Cabezón ( Big Head, too big for the frame):

All the best,

José

Hi

The first stamp with Columbus portrait was issued by Chile (1 july 1853). Engraved by Charles Henry Jeens (1827-1879) and printed in recess by Perkins, Bacon & Co. in London.

1.250 sheets = 300.000 stamps (5 cts.)
The frame is similar to first stamps of NZ

Chile certainly persisted with Columbus.
I think this is also a 1853 (1st London Print) with a 'VALPARAISO' line cancel.

Just for fun, here's an example of the 'broken hat' variety of the US 1892 Columbian shown above.

What you might call 'niche' collecting.
