To keep the ball rolling, a few more I just picked out of a lot... (Trying to sort this one out...I haven't had luck figuring out the last letter. The only match I could come up with was Bran, which would be Romania, but that seems unlikely, and it doesn't look like an "N". Bran, for what its worth, was home to Vlad III, Vlad the Impaler.) Canada, Slave Lake shortly after the town was founded following the flooding out of the town of Sawridge: And an Aruba strike, not quite on the nose, but pretty enough. |

Nice cancels! I think the Austrian one may be from the island of Brac in Dalmatia (c with a caron or hacek, a little v accent on top).
I tried to show the letter here and it looks fine in preview mode but doesn't work when posted. |

I don't think it would be Bran, However Bran would be entirely feasable ?
After the Kingdom of Hungary was defeated by the Ottoman Empire, Bran became part of the Principality of Transylvania during the 16th century, and eventually passed to the Habsburg Monarchy of Austria. The commune became part of the Austrian Empire in 1804 and the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1866. It was added to the Kingdom of Romania following World War I. |

I have a cancel of Brac (Brag) on an Austrian albeit a squared format. Please excuse the quality, (representative of a poor collector) |

Are you sure that one's not PRAG (Prague)? The old German name for Brac was Bratz. |

Thanks for the tipoff...I'm going to go looking for some Dalmatian postal history this evening and see if I can get lucky enough to find a match. |

Back to the well on Austria, sort of... First Pest, originally the left-bank portion of the current Budapest (Buda was across the Danube) maybe a Christmas card? and Banfi-Hanyud, a small Transylvanian/sometime Hungarian/sometime Romanian town: |

@djd: Regarding your SOTN "World's Greatest Hobby" green Machin: did you see mine? They're birds of a feather, aren't they? I think I even like yours a bit more. Thanks for sharing it!
@indieguy: Your project sounds great -- the Jan 1 to Dec 31. I've thought about doing that with my Machins, rather than passing along kilos and kilos of them to other people. They're ... a bit hard to unload sometimes. :-) The first many will be easy, but then one keeps looking, and looking, and looking, for each new one. I also keep my eye out for my birthdate (month/day/year). ( Yes, I am young enough that Machins were in service when I was born! Wanna make something of it?! :^p )
@stampgal: Your Japan with the crane is gorgeous! {saves a copy to hard drive}
@Russ: The Trans-Mississippi with the oval cancel is one of the best I've ever seen.
@Cjd: The Foochow is great. As for the c-avec-caron, let's see if we can get one: #269; #269; #x10d; #x10d; #269; #268; Edit: Huh. I guess not! I bet I could look at the source code to figure out how to do it.... |
