Modern Kiloware does not seem to be very exciting when it comes to rarities.
But at times a charity sourced, Kiloware seems to have someones stamp collection in it. Stamps off paper is where I have seen this.
Try to find some older stamps as a bulk lot if you are keen to find something interesting. Happy stamping KGV

'Try to find some older stamps as a bulk lot if you are keen to find something interesting.'

It's very hard to find bulk lots of older stamps these days, especially ones that have obviously not been thoroughly checked first!!

However, I'm something of an eternal optimist and I haven't stopped bidding for bulk lots yet. I've got a lot of 1000 old Indian stamps and a lot of 1500 old Italian stamps coming soon - assuming that the postal system works, which I'm increasingly starting to doubt. However, if they do arrive I'll certainly shout about it here if I find any treasures!

with Phil.

Although I do have a lot of kiloware I haven't had a chance to look at yet. Always hope, that's part of the excitement.

Just thinking, I did have a small lot, 30-50 grams (1-2 oz) of US and Canada I got from Great Britain (an impulse buy) and it had a surprise misperf (miscut?) modern flag over stamp. That was a nice surpeise as I do like the misperfs.

It has been a LONG time since I've found "treasure" in kiloware.

Back in the late 1970s and early 80's, I'd occasionally buy 4.5kg sealed sacks from the "Blue Peter" Charity Appeal in the UK. They were about 90% UK, 10% foreign, and completely untouched by philatelic hands.

In ONE of those sacks (I think I bought 4-5 of them, over a six-year period) I once found... a hoard of Victorian era GB. Literally looked like someone had clipped the corners of a stack of old letters that had been hidden in great-grandma's attic for 80 years. There were probably 600-700 QV stamps, and maybe 300-odd KEVII stamps, including some better values. No single stamp of great value but plenty of $10-30 items (1980-ish catalogue values).

The only other "major" find was in a box of "old" Danish kiloware I bought at auction-- about 8kg common definitives from the 1930's to 1950's. I bought the lot for postmarks, mainly... but found an example of a common surcharged stamp, with the surcharge severely misplaced to the side. I still have it in my collection, but recently saw a similar example realize the equivalent of about US $450.00, at auction.

The best I found out of kiloware was a set of the 1990 25 cent Lighthouses with the USA 25 omitted, Scott 2474b as used singles on paper from a large lot I purchased from Town & Country stamps out of st. Louis back in the mid-1990's.

Never bought a kiloware (I've led a sheltered life) but yes to boxes or albums purchased at brick and mortar auctions.

James, you're going to have to try some kiloware sometime! Once you do it and see the variety of material and the trading material you get in terms of duplication, it's easy to be hoooked! At the moment, I'm still soaking Germany (machine stamps), and some worldwide and I've got more on the way where that came from!

ajnabii, I've thought about it, but my collections are mainly specialized to Canada and US and don't include any modern material (1960 is the cut off date).
Admittedly I've got an album of Vario pages with stuff that I just find interesting, but I always end up thinking my meager funds are better spent elsewhere, on more specific purchases.
May someday.

James, I see where you're coming from. I enjoy sorting through it. I just won an estate sale of 1000+ US stamps, so we'll see what's inside. :)

I am afraid most kiloware treasures are found by the guys who sell mixtures rather than by the ones who buy them.

Or so I heard....
