I have two older stamps for a Scottish parcel delivery service named Edinburgh & Leith. Are these authentic and are they listed in the Gibbons Specialized? If so, what are they valued?
Thanks for any help! - John

Hi John,

No idea if they're genuine, but their condition would suggest that they probably are.

They were issued in 1866 and printed in sheets of 60.

No idea of current value.

I think these are forgeries made by S. Allan Taylor in the 1860's.

If genuine, 2001 catalogue £ 5 each (both values in this design). The right one looks like it may have been roulette 7. That would be £ 35. But that is for good examples.

The lines beneath the carriage go all the way to the bottom of the frame. I understand on the originals, this is not the case. This comes from an old article without illustrations, but it did say Taylor made forgeries and sold them.

Scroll down to the bottom to see the remarks about forgeries.

I think locals4me correctly identified these as the Taylor (third) forgeries.

NSK, thank you for your post. The two sources are very detailed and right on point. And yes, the second reference illustrates a stamp just like mine which the author identifies as by Taylor.
