2 or 7 ??

I'm thinking this is Brunswick (22)
or Creswick (7)

Any other possibility?
Thanks,
Pat

PS - Just saw this put me at 500!

Interesting
Definite 7 (Creswick)
I do not have that duplex hammer impression under Creswick
(Watson, Webster and Wood)

It can only be one of 11
Berwick
Brunswick
Creswick
Elsternwick
Fenwick
Glenpatrick
Jindivik
Pederick
Sedgwick
Taminick
Whipstick

I guess then it is CRESWICK (Framed) Duplex 3-3-3-3 bar 7
Watson, Webster and Wood #90
side arcs of 2mm Diameter 25mm
Usage October 16th 1900 to 10th June 1935

Thanks.
It's always nice to elevate an otherwise common stamp to a bit more interesting one.

Along those lines, how do you prefer to arrange your cancel collections?
In this case barred numerals.

Do you group by stamp type & town name then number, or do you just start at 1 and group numerically to the end.

How do you handle adding a new number in the middle of the collection?

I've decided to finally re-arrange my Victoria cancel collection and was looking for some suggestions.

Right now, I'm using the shotgun approach.
I'm using Vario pages.

Thanks for suggestions,
pat

Collecting postmarks, is akin to collecting sand grains on the beach.
it's endless (but enjoyable)

As a worldwide collector, my time is most important
so my routine is

1. Collect images digitally first. Why?

One click and you can sort EVERY postmark, of your discipline
and compare that to Auction Catalogues, for price and scarcity.

Example

2.
Collect randomly, use block spaces as stock sheets and pencil in
names /info
I use the pages to give flavour to my Steiner Pages

I am not a fan of Vario pages, prefer to hinge

Some examples of my humble efforts
This also gives me opportunity to see "shades"

or

or "on piece"
"whatever floats your boat"

Rod - thanks for the suggestions and examples.

I think I'll be grouping stamps and postmarks by Roo's and KGV (I like the idea of being able to compare shades), then stamps of Australian States and postmarks, then various modern postmarks from the states.

The one that will take the longest is Victoria. I have a binder that just covers Melbourne cancels.

Will see how it goes.
pat

Here is another. I like the ones that have enough info to have a shot.

Horsham, Vic. (BNC 51)

(From Phoenix)

My Catalogues do not go as high as H

Horsham is correct but there are two different hammers
the earlier hammer has the light bars and thinner text and numerals
Should attract differing prices.

Both unframed

That's what is fun trying to decipher what you find in Pheonix with what you have.
Even down to the length of the arcs or circle diameter.

Don't have any in-depth catalog, so just do the best I can.

Still looking for my first RRRRRR (just kidding)

All is good fun,
pat

I recently acquired this Victoria Stamp Duty revenue stamp that appears to be postally used. I assume that revenue stamps were sometime used as postage. Is that correct?

The cancel reads <blank> YARRA VICTORIA, index C, SP or AP 21, 1935 or 85, Killer 20?

I could use a little help filling in the blanks and straightening me out.

Also, the stamp has a J next to the 5 of the cancel. Is that the plate Number?

Comments welcome, thanks in advance,

Linus

I believe it is South Yarra, number 200. Probably the Fourth Duplex which was in use from 1885 or earlier.

The letter "J" and, on the other side is the letter "L". The second letter is covered by the postmark.
JL is probably the initials of the engraver who is unknown. (Source is Kellow: The Stamps of Victoria)

Hi there!

Here are some scans. I don't know much about the numerals. The number on the right one is not clear but it seems to begin with a 6 and ends with a 2. So any information, like in wich town the stamps where posted, would be nice. Thanks.
