I was also interested in that lot and I'm happy to say I noticed that mistake too. 100% due to things I've learned here.

Congratulations on completing that. Its nice to see.

stallzer - That's a very nice 4R1L. The impression is way better than most that I've seen.

Yes it does! Thanks for sharing that bit of info, txstamp. Makes the cover and postmark all that more interesting.

Before I offer the correction below, let me first extend once again many thanks to Richard Nance for maintaining the Stamp Smarter 1¢ 1851-1857 Plating Initiative. I find it is a tremendous convenience to have the Neinken maps online and searchable by plate position.

One map that has long puzzled me is for 1R1L. It seemed to be in error, but I wasn't sure how it came about. I think that I now have an explanation for how this occurred. In his book, Neinken cropped the top and bottom of the 1R1L map in order to save space for his composite of positions 1R1L-6R1L (Fig. 11A1, p. 137). In the Stamp Smarter map of 1R1L, an attempt was made to depict the 1R1L map in full size, and it appears that in the image manipulation to do so, the bottom of 1R1L was mistakenly appended to the top of 8R1L (Fig. 11A2, Positions 7R ll-10RIL, p. 138). I'll leave it to Richard and his photoshop magic to make the correction.

Thank you Widglo46 for bringing this error to my attention. I have edited the image of the Neinken drawing for position 1R1L and uploaded it to the database. Here is the corrected image.
