Turkey The 50th Anniversary of Kandilli Observatory July 1, 1961 Kandilli Observatory is a Turkish observatory which is also specialized in earthquake research. It is situated in Kandilli neighborhood on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, atop a hill overlooking Bosporus. The commemorative stamps show the old observatory and the new building housing the telescope.  |

Netherlands Eisinga planetarium May 5, 1994 The Royal Eise Eisinga Planetarium is located in Franeker, Friesland. The stamp shows the top of the orrery built between 1774 and 1781 by Eise Eisinga. It is the oldest working orrery in the world.  |

Jaipur Observatory (Scott #52) Issued 1947-48 Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Jaipur, is a collection of 19 astronomical observatories and instruments built by the Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh II in the 1700's. It's an interesting place to visit if you are ever in the area.  |
