erilaz - I'm glad you like the Algeria stamp honoring Lalla Fadhma N'Soumeur posted above; it was designed by Algerian artist Kamardine Krim (1952- ).

Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Austrian economist, women's rights activist, journalist and politician Käthe Leichter (1895-1942), designed by Hannes Margreiter (1954- ), combined engraved by Robert Trsek (1959- ) and photogravure, and issued by Austria on August 18, 1995 to commemorate the economist's birth centenary, Scott No. 1684, plus a photo of Käthe Leichter.

I only collect US (so far), but I collect stamps and covers with women on it as well. I love learning all about these amazing and strong women and why they were chosen for stamps.

Dr. Mary Walker is one of my favorites. I just love her story.

The portrait painted by Lucas Cranach of Katharina von Bora was used for the design of the stamp paying tribute to the wife of Martin Luther. She was a nun from a family of nobility and did a major part of the work involved in running the Luther household and business. Her biography is certainly worth looking up. 1999. By the way, the Cranachs were friends of the Luthers.

Hello S87, Welcome to the SC! This topic is a very rewarding one because there is so much to learn. There are several other threads worth going through for additional material. Primos, who started this one, has unfortunately not participated for quite some time; I hope he's all right. K.

Thanks Kris, I'm just started to really look around and get used to this site. I've sent many different suggestions to the USPS of ideas for new women stamps. I would love to see a new series start! I'm going to a postcard envelope sale next weekend. I'll post any good finds!
