For those of you interested in a wide range of post office photographs, the Postmark Collectors Club Museum has a large collection of photographs and view cards of post offices around the country, with many of them on-line at their website.

Hingham, MA 02043 Post Office. The tree behind the mailbox is a cherry tree, but I didn't have a chance to photograph it at the right time.

Ok, this isn't my local, but the wife and I were in beautiful Elora Ontario today, and this was the first thing I noticed (well one of the first)

Central post office in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Originally built in the mid-1920s and home to the postal museum. This picture is taken from my office, just across Peace Avenue.

Here is a light fixture that was used in the Gilford County PO (North Carolina) lobby and was removed in the late 1960s. It has been in my family since then and we used it for a number of years. It is huge, heavy, and striking. (Read as, we had to reinforce the area where we had installed it.)It is made of glass and some kind of metal.

When they were updating the PO lobby, a family friend (who was a Federal FBI agent) who knew many of the PO employees, was given the opportunity to snag two of these as they were being thrown away.

Unfortunately I no longer have a house which this can be used or displayed, it is sitting in my attic gathering dust. I tried contacting the Gilford county historical society to see if they would take it as donation but never heard back from them. I would hate to just take this to the dump. Any ideas?
Don

Here is the PO it came out of...

Tim,
True enough but this thing it heavy and the glass makes it somewhat fragile. Not sure the shipping cost, nor my packing skills, would justify a listing. :( I am not even sure this would rank as architectural salvage.
