wow, what's with the 2-state building?? Reminds me of a business Frank Sintara was involved in that was 1/2 Nevada, 1/2 Californa... gambling was legal in 1/2 of it!

There was no date on it. When I googled it, I saw a photo indicating 1912'ish. On the left is the Fire Dept., on the right is the P.O.

My grandfather started his employment, after WWI at the Elmwood Ave. #2 station, in 1914.

Door of the Asakusa Post Office and Post Bank, Tokyo, Japan, February 2015.

This was the post office closest to my hotel on my last three trips to Tokyo. I took the picture because of the poster of Hitoshi Matsumoto, the boke of the popular comedy duo Downtown. Japan Post's advertising at the time featured the comedian and the slogan "Baka majime." (Stupid serious.)

Love that mural in the Concord PO. Glad to see another of the WPA murals has been saved.

I rarely go in here because it's not convenient to where I live, but this one was built in the 1930's at the height of the Art Deco architectural movement, and I love the style of the building. It's in Canoga Park, California and I pass it every day on the way to and from work

I tend to agree, the Post Offices within 100km appear to have similar bricks, and design / construction. Also agree the bricks /style is fabulous.

This is Lynn, in east central Indiana, not far from the Ohio state line. It's where I grew up. The first photo shows the post office and RFD carriers in 1904. The gentleman in the vest was Postmaster George Bascom. His son, James Bascom, was the RFD carrier in the center foreground. The carrier on the right was Henry Hawkins, my great-great grandfather's brother.




The second view is the same post office in a 1908 postcard view. It is the small single-story, wood frame building left of center.




In 1909, the post office was moved from that small wood frame building to the back (far end) of the larger wood frame building at the left side of the postcard. The interior view of the post office shows George Bascom, at the window with his father, James Bascom, in 1959. George is the postmaster I knew as a kid and was the grandson of the George Bascom shown in the 1904 photo above. The post office had moved to this location in 1909 and remained there until a new building was constructed in 1962. George was in his 90s when he loaned me these two photos to scan.
