Bolivia's 2006 set of two "Towards a New Millennium" stamps (Sc #s 1265-6) depict a Chasqui, or Inca messenger. The stamp is inscribed "Mail in the Inca Period".

From Wikipedia, "Agile, highly trained, and physically fit, they were in charge of carrying the quipus, messages, and gifts up to 240 kilometers a day through the chasquis relay system"

The quipus, shown in the accompanying illustration, were strands with an intricate system of knots. The knots were of different sizes, material and colors and the chasquis were trained to read them.

Here is a cover franked with the pane from Finland's February 1, 1988 "discount" booklet of 10 stamps commemorating the 350th anniversary of the extension of the Swedish Postal Service to Finland. There are two pairs in the booklet (Facet #s 1043-4) showing a postman handing over a letter to an older woman.

From Facet, "Four booklets with each 10 stamps were , against coupons, for 14 marks offered each household in Finland (not Aland). Time of sale: 1st February 31st May 1988."
