This is my all-time favorite First Day Cover. I guess it's possible that Mousehole may have done a bunch of envelopes early in the day and then flew them to Findlay before the day was out...more likely one of these is backdated I guess. I absolutely love the British version of the Very Hungry Caterpillar stamp with the holes "eaten out" of it. If you've never read any of Eric Carle's books, the next time you're in a bookstore, do yourself a favor and head over to the children's section. I have no idea how common it is for more than one country to issue stamps with the same (or at least very similar) design, but if anyone has any more, I'd love to see them. (Triggersmob, I'm pretty sure you must, given your avatar. )

Hmmm. So they are only appreciated by collectors on old stamps. |

I have a block of four (and a single) of USA's "Happy Bicentennial Australia" joint issue, but not the Australian version yet. I think it's a really cute stamp; it seems like it's not that often that you get to see our eagle not posing all bellicose (or stern at best). It's also interesting to see how the same language has it's differences (bicentennial vs. bicentenary). I love the Kiwi and Koala campfire too; very cute. Neat stamps everyone. Keep 'em coming. Gussyboy, yes I bet they would. The Grouchy Ladybug is a really fun story, too. |

No, we are relatively new arrivals to Aus. We migrated from England as ten pound Poms. Australia had a big push to re populate after the war and our family migrated in 1969. It cost ten pound per adult and the kids came free. Steve |

I have to agree with you Hop - although 'manufactured,' I think it's a great cover also! It's got personality. |

There was a joint China Sweden set with the added bonus of being engraved by Slania. Here's one. |

Quote: joint issue between Yugoslavia and Romania, for the opening of the Iron Gate Hydro-Electric Plant at Djerdap. This is the souvenir sheet issued jointly. Each country also issued 2 single stamps. The single stamps mentioned are very interesting, because they were valid in both countries and showed a face value in the currency of each. There is one other example of this, as far as I know. Switzerland and Liechtenstein released a joint issue valid in both countries. Since Liechtenstein uses Swiss currency, there was no need for two separate face values. Ryan |
