My great grandfather started collecting in 1920. He was apparently heavily involved in this community. He passed in 1980 but passed the torch of collecting to his son(my grandfather)before he died in '79. My grandfather was a printer by trade. Navigator in the Navy during ww2, all around a very cool cat. Who passed away last year at 94. He wanted to make it a point that I received this collection that was passed down to him. I finally gathered up some of these items, 14+ banker boxes of material. I'm in awe of this organized effort and collaboration of collecting. It's mind bending and backbreaking amounts of stamps and naval covers,FDC,international Scott books, white ace, his own collecting book that he built. Truly I hadn't a clue what this collection involved and it's consumed me. In a good way.i think. Anyways if everyone doesn't mind me asking dense and dumb questions from time to time and giving me a little insight on my lack of… I will truly be appreciative. #128591; thank you.

Glad to have you here. Stick around, and have fun.

When you want a question answered, an idea is to first search to see if any other similar questions have been asked. If you can find such a topic, then just add to the bottom of that thread.

If you can't find a similar question anywhere, then please feel free to start a new topic in the correct forum. Don't worry, we'll move it, if necessary.

Looking forward to scans of your interesting items.

Anyone have any knowledge on about these precancels. Did these cities pool in and ask for these items or were they prepared for them. Postmaster would have to ask for these items and how were they received or purchased?
