Hi guys, newbie here, first post.

Recently I have purchased a couple of kiloware from ebay, one world, another from New Zealand. I collided with the dreaded self adhesive stamps, specially NZ and US. It was awful, many stamps lost in combat, split in two, trashed, a butchery. I have taken steps to go thru the remaining ones.

Anyways… I wonder if you guys could post here the countries and/or the periods that have self adhesive stamps? To know when to buy off paper, you know…

Thanks!

Charly

I would venture to say that just about any postal issuing entity now has at least some self adhesive stamps. Please use the "search" function here to see how to handle these pain in the butts!

They date from the 1960s, but the most extensive use has been in the last thirty years. Unless a specific source/time is stated for kiloware, it may be hard to avoid them. Not necessarily a problem if you're prepared to leave them on paper, with a neat cut around the stamp.

Interesting question ... one would think there would be a list somewhere.

I've sometimes run into interesting columnar lists on Wikipedia, but the article on self-adhesives https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-adhesive_stamp has none.

However a reference in the Wikipedia article leads to a 2002 article in Linns https://www.linns.com/news/postal-u...-world-.html which gives in text form quite a few countries and years. Including of course the banana issued by Tonga in 1969.

Edited to fix hyper link.

I don't have the answer to your question but I know that Thailand and Vietnam do not have it (yet...)

Spray "Pure Citrus Orange" on the paper side, give it a minute or two, gently peel the paper off the stamp, using a credit card or a razor gently scrape the gum off the stamp, let dry face down, dust with a light application of baby power or corn scratch.

I admit to being in the "Pure Citrus and credit card" camp, but believe that if you do a proper job of adhesive removal that and powder application is unnecessary. Like shampoo, "Wash, rinse and repeat" and no need to do more.
