New to the forum. I went to the post office on June 4 to pick up new issues. The clerk told me she had one sheet of the new Indiana Statehood, which I purchased. I checked on the issue and found out date of issue is June 7. I then affixed the stamps to envelopes, returned to the post office and had them hand cancelled. I don't know if I handled this in the correct way. Any input would be appreciated. Picture attached.

For sure you'll have a rarity in your collection but I don't think it will be of any significant value

1919plateblock, welcome to the forum. Pretty stamps, and a very nice cancel. But if yiu tried to cancel the block, it is un-cancelled. The stamps did not get cancelled. Also, Tom is correct in that there is probably very little value since the issue date was June 7th. Some collectors save these stamps that wetre used before the issue date, but on modern stamps there is very little value.

Peter

The good news is that the uncancelled stamps are still worth 47 cents each. (Wink.)

One thing that you could do is stamp it again and send it in for a FDC cancellation. Then you would have something even a bit more unusual. The value of it will still be minimal but I enjoy doing this as it is fun for me.
