Now that the American Philatelic Society has an Executive Director who recognizes the value of social media in communications, Mr. English, and since APS doesn't host its own discussion forum at stamps.org, I suggest that SCF add a new topic category, "APS News & Business", to organize posts originating from APS, or members, or of concern to members.

Since the APS deals with more than just US collecting, it's hard to pick an existing SCF top-level (red) category to hold this. SCF may wish to consider adding a new top-level (red) category called "Associations and Societies" to accommodate categories for APS, RPSL, USPCS, USSS, and other organizations. I realize that SCF may not view itself as in the business of supporting forum communications for such groups that choose not to build out their own platform.

thanks,
Chris

I would second this request. I think it would be quite helpful.

What are the chances that APS would actually post news and business items to the proposed forum? Have they (Mr. English) express any interest?

Certainly could put the on going officer election stuff there....

I offered much the same suggestion some time ago, and it was greeted with ... silence.

Part of the problem may be pride, eg, I subsequently discovered that another discussion board already does this, and we do not want to be the "me, too" board, do we?

And, part of the problem may be moderating (refereeing) such food fights as may erupt from time-to-time ... who is to say who is the legitimate faction?

Still, I think it would be a great way for SCF to broaden its user base while adding useful topicality, so I'm all for it.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

Apologies for just catching this, but thank you for the suggestion. First, please feel free to call me Scott. Even my father doesn't go by Mr. English.

I have noticed there is not a Society section here on the SCF, so I've tried to be creative with where I post.

"What are the chances that APS would actually post news and business items to the proposed forum? Have they (Mr. English) express any interest?"

I have increasingly tried to include the online forums in what is happening. One of our stated goals is better outreach through social media and other methods to members and non-members alike. It will be a slow build, but ultimately, it will be worth it.

A quick plug for the strategic plan, please feel free to read, review and share any questions or comments: http://stamps.org/userfiles/file/re...Plan2016.pdf

"Certainly could put the on going officer election stuff there...."

I know you saw the thread - and commented - but so anyone catching this one will see, I did post an update on the elections as of last week, here: http://goscf.com/t/48695

As for hosting our own forum, it seems like the Stamp Community has an online presence well in hand, and being able to speak your mind (positive and critical of the APS) would be much easier to accomplish on a neutral site. Of course, I hope it's all positive!

Scott

I think it is a good idea. As long as posters can remain independent it could be an interesting sub-forum.
