Australia KGV 1d Green

Why does the stamp on the left look 'funny'? Is this a rough paper variety, perhaps? Compare it to the one on the right. Both are single watermark printings, but the one on the left looks so much cruder that at first I thought it might have been a forgery.

By the way, the one on the right is postmarked '---DERA.' Any suggestions as to what the placename would be, other than Narrandera, which seems too long to fit, and Undera, which seems too short?

The possibilities for the unknown postmark seem to be Baddera (WA), Jindera (NSW), Naldera (Vic) and Windera (Qld).

The 1d green is known from both Mullett and Harrison printings. Perhaps you have examples of each.

Thanks for the placename suggestions, tony. I'm constantly amazed by how you, and some of the other contributors to this forum, seem able to pull names at the drop of a hat. Going by the datestamp type (date in two lines), I'd say it would be the NSW location (Jindera).

I have around 75 of these (single watermark) 1d greens, and they don't seem to me to divide clearly into two sorts. In fact, this is the only stamp that has this appearance. I was just thinking it looks like a third generation photocopy!

Are you suggesting that one of the two printings was especially rough and ready?

Thanks for the suggestions, rod. However, unless some have been omitted from the PPA list, which is not complete, Jindera is the only place in NSW that had a post office. SOLVED!

According to the Philatelics website, there's a 'dry ink' variety of this stamp. It looks even worse that this one!

Jimjamtwo, Your left roo is almost foxed faced (cat' type).

There both perf 14.

Jimjamtwo, the G in Postage(right stamp) 'looks half-way' between the normal G and the 'Thin G variety'.

PS. I hope the right bottom corner, with missing perfs, is just a bad crop job.

Actually, someone (not me!) trimmed the bottom perfs off. Annoying, but these things happen.
