Hi everyone, I just saw on a cover that has a seal. Any body knows what kind of seal is this? Also, if I want to know more about France seal on cover or document, where should I look at (book, website,..?). Thank you
I looks like something that has to do with the government or military. I can barely see the printed message through the paper. Can you scan the inside of the cover? I think your answer lies within.
Thank you, Battlestamps. As soon as I have it, I'll take a look inside. By the way, I am interested in France covers that have official seals, do you what kind of book or resource I should take a look? Or is there any book that I should read if I want to collect classic/old cover? Thank you
I don't know a book that covers official seals offhand. If you contact someone from a French Philatelic Organization they probably know the answer. I do know of a nice web to help with older French postmarks. http://marcophilie.org/ If you don't know French, put the web url address into Google and when it comes up again, select the tranlated version and you can read it in English.
Actually the seal says: "Tribunal de 1čre Instance, Carpentrās, Vaucluse". It's a paper from the city court of Carpentrās on the Department of Vaucluse in Southern France. The town, had 10.524 inhabitants by 1872 (Wikipedia).
