Israel Number 1.
Hebrew Post [Doar Ivri] issues of May 16th, 1948. The first Official Israel stamps, this being the lowest value, and hence the number one ! [Copy without Tab, sadly]

The Palestinian Authority.

The first stamps of the future Palestine, were issued on August 15th 1994 but were only available in Germany, where they were printed, until October of that year when they were distributed to Post Offices in the Palestinian Territories. The First day covers [of limited quantity] exist with the August 15th date.

Scott and Gibbons catalogues both list 'Jerusalem views' Hisham Palace, Jericho as the No.1 while Michel lists the stamp below as the No.1.

The official FDC for the views issue was September 1st 1994 but again this was only available in Germany until October. Because both 'sets' of stamps were available at the same time in the Palestinian areas, both Scott and Gibbons took the issue to be the same, especially as the inscriptions are similar in design.

This area of Philately and at these times in history are fascinating with many overprints, colours and forgeries. I have often thought about jumping in but the costs prohibit it !

Still interesting though.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.

British Columbia and Vancouver Island Scott No. 1 (my latest acquisition ). Issued in 1860.

BC and VI were separate colonies at the time, but this "unified" stamp was issued for use in both colonies for money saving reasons.

Well I don't have #1s in my US or Canadian collections yet, and I don't have a penny black.
How's about a United Nations #1.

This is Scott #1 for the territory of Singapore, with King George VI's bust on it, issued in 1948. This was when Singapore was still part of Malaya, and Malaya was still part of the British Empire.
