This one has been bothering me for a long, long time. What is the number on this stamp? At first glance, it seems legible enough, but the harder I look the more perplexed I seem to get. Can anyone help?

I'd say 1331, Broken Hill.

Thanks for the suggestion, Cjd. Personally, I can't see '3's there, but it is a more viable construction that my own (1221), because this number was no longer being used at the time this particular stamp was issued.

When rotated, the number in the third place fits a three, to my eyes.

Ah, but you didn't mention that I was looking at the cancel upside down!

Of course, you're right. Thanks for clearing that one up!
