British Virgin Islands - Stamp Or Something Else?

Perhaps someone out there knows what this is? I suspect it is a very neatly trimmed impression from an envelope or wrapper of some sort.

It gives the impression of being an imperforate stamp but is printed on poor quality, soft paper usually found in newspaper wrappers or something of the sort. The only really odd thing is the dotted outline of the "cut here" variety which almost implies a privately printed "souvenir" item of some sort.

Anyone have a catalogue which shows colonial B.O.B. material that can identify its source?

I'm certainly no expert in the Virgin Islands, but this looks like the 1867-70 4d lake-red on buff paper, SG 16 - with the perforations largely trimmed off.

It is a trimmed back Scott #5 St. Ursula no BOB but front & cwenter!

SG16, Sc#5 would be unwatermarked, and perf 15. There might be just enough remnants there to get a perf reading? Might depend on the gauge you're using.

As far as I can tell the markings which look like the remnants of perforations in the picture definitely are not. They are ink, basically the same colour as the stamp,and are the "cut here" lines that I referred to in the initial description.

When first seen on an album page, my thought was, "Woohoo, something worthwhile!" but the more I look, the less I see. Just curiousity and little hope remains.
