Thank you very much, jorgesurcl, for sharing your great engraved stamps! I enjoy each one of them and will be glad to see more from your album, Eli ___________A set of semi-postal engraved stamps of famous paintings of Monaco Princes and Princesses, was issued by Monaco on December 10, 1942. The set has 15 stamps and I will show them in three parts. Here is the first group of them: Rainier I of Monaco (1267–1314) was the first sovereign Grimaldi ruler of the area now known as Monaco, and the Lord of Cagnes, a town where in 1309 he established a stronghold, today known as the Château Grimaldi, painting by Eugène Charpentier. Engraved by Raoul Serres: Charles II (1555 – 1589) was the eldest son of Honoré I (1522–1581) and Isabella Grimaldi (died 1583). He became Lord of Monaco on the death of his father in 1581 until his death in 1589, painting by Bernardin Mimault. Engraved by René Cottet: Jeanne Grimaldi (1596 - 1620), daughter of Lord Hercules I of Monaco and Maria Landi and a sister of HSH Prince Honore II of Monaco. She died in childbirth in 1620 at age 24, painting by Bernardin Mimault. Engraved by Emile Henri Feltesse: Charles Auguste de Goyon, Count of Gacé (1647-1729), was the French soldier, diplomat and Marshal of France from 1693 after which he was known as the Maréchal de Matignon. Engraved by Pierre Gandon: Jacques I (1689–1751), Prince of Monaco from 1731 to 1733, Duke of Valentinois from 1716 until 1733, and Count of Thorigny. Engraved by Antonin Jean Delzers: |
